Introduction


    The PG Programme in Public Administration was started in the year 2003 and the B.A. Public Administration was started in the year 2005 in the department of Political Science. The department was bifurcated and instituted as a separate department in the year 2011. M.Phil. and Ph.D. (Full Time and Part Time) in Public Administration have been started in the department from the year 2015. So far we have produced 37 M.Phil. and 4 Ph.D.s. We have a separate department library with 734 books. We follow ICT enabled classroom teaching.

    There are 5 permanent teachers out of which 4 are Ph.D. holders with 3 guest lecturers who are also Ph.D. holders. A Board of Study meeting for updating the syllabus was conducted last year in which a university nominee, a subject expert, an industrialist and an alumnus were members. So far we have produced 21 M.Phil. and 10 Ph.D. candidates in our department.

    The students of the department have been involved in the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board, Coimbatore Division in the Housing for All Prime Minister Awas Yojana Scheme. They validated online forms which include a phone call and online updating.

    An Outreach programme was organized on 22/3/2023. The students and the faculty members of the Public Administration Department went to Kallampuram Panchayat at Udumalaipettai Panchayat Union of Tirupur District, Tamil Nadu. Most of the people of this locality belong to the SC and ST community and it has been heard from some sources that they lack awareness about the social welfare programmes available to them from the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. By being Public Administration students and studying all these programmes in the paper entitled “Social Welfare Administration”, Students used this program to create awareness among them with the guidance of the Faculty Members.

    Six of our department students had undergone the District Collector Internship Program conducted by the District Collector, Coimbatore District for 45 days (21.11.2022 to 21.01.2023), and successfully completed the Internship and submitted the report to the district Collector.

    Public Administration Department Association Inaugural Function was held at College Auditorium on 18.04.2023. Mr. M. Prathap, I.A.S., Corporation Commissioner, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, Coimbatore, attended the function as the special guest and gave many ideas about how the students should study and prepare for the UPSC exams.

    Our faculty members are actively participating in the national and international seminars and have published articles in various journals.
